CONSUMER PROTECTION AND THE LAW

As with employment legislation, the laws covering the consumer are becoming more and more extensive. In addition to this the consumer is choosing to correctly exercise their rights much more frequently and with regards to the smallest of purchases.

 

Apart from the legal obligations and potential compensation payable there is also of course the effect on your business’s goodwill.

 

There are a number of pieces of legislation that traders need to be aware of. These are:-

 

Ø        The Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982

Ø        The Consumer Protection Act 1987 and

Ø        The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000
